Hyderabad: The long dry weather that has prevailed in the state for the last two months is likely to end soon as Telangana is set to witness a change in the weather conditions. Weathermen say the state will experience unseasonal showers in the upcoming week. Heavy thunderstorms are to be expected in some areas from 16 March.

According to the Meteorological centre, light to moderate rain or thundershowers are very likely to occur at isolated places in Hyderabad on 14 and 15 March.

Hyderabad saw below-normal temperatures last week amid unusual thunderstorm activity.

Last week, the state capital’s weather was highlighted by nice winds and lower-than-normal temperatures after a month of increasing temperatures. Many northern districts in the state were even cloudy, with low temperatures.

The current weather conditions have been attributed to unusual thunderstorm activity in central India and northern Telangana with even hailstorms and gusty winds seen across Nagpur and adjoining areas.

March 15: The minimum and maximum temperatures in the city will likely be around 20°C and 35°C, respectively. Skies are likely to remain partly cloudy.

Between the Kokan region and the central sections of Chhattisgarh, a trough or low-pressure system has formed, going through north Karnataka, Telangana, and Vidarbha. “These circumstances will bring rain to the state,” said an official of IMD Hyderabad. The rains, however, are expected to be limited to Adilabad, Asifabad, Nirmal, Mancherial, Jagtial, Nizamabad, and Kamareddy over the next 24–48 hours, according to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD).

“Downpours are expected in Adilabad, Nirmal, Kumrambheem Asifabad, Mancherial, Jagtial, Nizamabad, Kamareddy, Rajanna Sircilla, Peddapalli, Jayashankar Bhupalpally, and Karimnagar,” said Telangana Weatherman.

Similarly, weather enthusiasts predict crop-damaging strong thunderstorms in Telangana between 16 and 20 March.

Showers are expected to be most intense between 16 and 18 March.

Adilabad, Nirmal, Nizamabad, Jagtial Rajanna Sircilla, Media, Sangareddy, Vikarabad, Mahbubnagar, Narayanpet, Wanaparthy, and Gadwal are among the districts where light to moderate storms are forecast.

Kumrambheem Asifabad, Mancherial, Peddapalli, Karimnagar, Warangal Urban, Siddipet, Jangaon, Medchal, Yadadri, Bhongir, Hyderabad, Rangareddy, Nalgonda, and Nagarkurnool are among the districts that may see moderate to heavy rains.

Weather in India

Rain is expected in several parts of India over the next few days. A western disturbance is expected to generate isolated/scattered rainfall and thunderstorm activity over the Western Himalayan region and neighboring plains through 14 March, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). Between 15 and 17 March, a rainy period is forecast throughout southern, central and eastern India.

In the lower and medium tropospheric levels, the trough in westerlies runs along longitude 88°E and to the north of 22°N. Isolated to scattered light rainfall activity with thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds (speed 30–40 kmph) are highly possible over sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim and northeast India until 14 March. Meanwhile, mild to moderate rainfall activity with thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds (30–40 kmph) is expected throughout the region on 15 and 16 March.

The Western Disturbance travels about along longitude 62°E and to the north of 27°N as a trough in westerlies in the middle and upper tropospheric levels. In the lower troposphere, an induced cyclonic circulation exists over south Pakistan and the surrounding area. Isolated to scattered rainfall with thunderstorms and lightning is expected throughout the Western Himalayan region until Tuesday as a result of this weather system.

On Monday, similar weather conditions are expected in Punjab and West Rajasthan, as well as in East Rajasthan, on 13 March. Rainfall is expected in Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, and parts of Maharashtra.

According to the IMD, isolated light rainfall activity with thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds (speed 30–40 kmph) is very likely to occur over west Madhya Pradesh during the 14 and 16 March with thunderstorms and lightning over Gujarat on 12 and 14 March, Madhya Maharashtra and Marathwada during 13 and 16 March, and over East Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, and Chhattisgarh from 14–16 March.

Many southern states of India, notably Tamil Nadu, are also predicted to be affected. Due to the likely interaction of middle tropospheric westerly trough with lower-level easterly winds over central parts of peninsular India and East India, isolated to scattered light/moderate rainfall is likely over north interior Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, interior Karnataka, east Gujarat, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, West Bengal, and Jharkhand from 15–17 March, the meteorological department said in its weather bulletin.

The maximum temperatures in northwest India are expected to rise by two to three degrees Celsius during the next three days, with no major change after that. The maximum temperatures in Maharashtra are likely to dip by two to four degrees Celsius during the next 24 hours with no noticeable change. In central India, the maximum temperatures are expected to rise by roughly two degrees Celsius during the next two days before falling by two to three degrees.
