Hyderabad: The long-awaited Kothaguda flyover may open to the public in January 2023, according to GHMC. Once opened, the flyover will improve traffic flow at three major intersections—Botanical Gardens, Kondapur, and Kothaguda.

The Gachibowli-Miyapur route merges with a road from the Kothaguda intersection and Botanical Gardens and finishes near the RTO Kondapur Road.

The multi-level flyover is being constructed by GHMC at a cost of Rs. 263.09 crores as part of phase 3 of the Strategic Road Development Plan (SRDP).

One four-lane ramp begins at the Marriott/SLN Terminus and finishes at the Botanical Gardens junction, while another two-lane ramp begins at the Botanical Gardens parking area and ends at the Botanical Gardens junction. From here, the five-lane unidirectional flyover passes through AMB Cinemas and goes towards Kothaguda junction, where it splits into two three-lane sections.

One section of the flyover leads to Kondapur junction and terminates at the Raghavendra Colony C Block arch, while the other leads to Hitech City and terminates before Hitex near Prestige Ivy League, a housing society.

The one-way flyover assists traffic from Gachibowli to Kondapur, Allwyn Colony, Miyapur, and other localities as well as traffic from Gachibowli to Hitech City and other regions. A unidirectional three-lane underpass near Kothaguda junction is being built for commuters from Kondapur to Gachibowli.

The flyover will largely benefit commuters travelling to Gachibowli from Kondapur, Hafeezpet, and Miyapur.

Traffic woes:

Commuters who travel towards Kothaguda crossroads from Gachbowli say that there is a lot of construction debris near SLN terminus and Kothaguda crossroads. "The flyover itself makes the roads narrow," said G. Surya, a resident of Gachibowli.

He explained that the roads need to be relaid as they are in poor condition. "Narrow roads riddled with potholes have exacerbated the junction's traffic issues during peak hours," Surya said.

"Sarath City Capital Mall's congestion halts traffic for an extended period of time. It takes more than 30 minutes to get from Le Meridien Gachibowli to Kothaguda crossroads between 5 and 8 p.m. The distance between the two is only 1.1 km," he further added.

T. Srinivas Rao, DCP, Cyberabad traffic police, said they are working to find a solution to the increasing traffic at Kothaguda crossroads. "Drones were used to inspect the traffic flow near Sarath City Capital Mall. However, traffic is being held up by a bottleneck junction ahead of Kothaguda crossroads. There won't be much traffic once the flyover is open," he said.
