Hyderabad: HMWSSB managing director Ashok Reddy conducted a detailed inspection of the ongoing Zone-3 Sewer Network Project.

The project is aimed at modernizing the sewerage system in Hyderabad’s core city areas.

Zone-3 sewer network project overview:

The Rs 297 crore Zone-3 Sewer Network Project aims to upgrade the sewerage infrastructure in a 33.50 sq km area north of the Musi River, covering parts of Goshamahal, Nampally, Karwan, and Jubilee Hills constituencies.

The project includes laying 135 km of new sewer pipelines across densely populated zones in the Old City.

Accompanied by Karwan MLA Kausar Mohiuddin, the MD visited key sites including Tolichowki, Seven Tombs Road, and the HMWSSB office at Shaikpet. The inspection focused on identifying bottlenecks in project execution and ensuring timely completion before the monsoon.

The MD reviewed tunneling work planned under the Tolichowki flyover, a high-traffic zone, and discussed strategies to execute the work without disrupting vehicular movement. With tunneling set to take place 8 to 11 meters below ground, he instructed that works be completed on a priority basis to avoid delays during the rainy season.

Ashok Reddy stressed the need for inter-departmental coordination involving GHMC, TRANSCO, and various wings of HMWSSB. He directed that all safety protocols be strictly followed during construction, including the installation of proper barricades and the use of protective gear by workers. He also instructed that road restoration be taken up immediately after pipe-laying work is completed.

On the road leading to the Seven Tombs, where underground tunneling is also planned, officials were asked to prepare proposals that ensure no damage is caused to nearby residential structures. The MD further inspected the pipeline expansion work underway in MD Lines and the surrounding areas.

During the visit, MLA Kausar Mohiuddin requested the MD to expedite the works in view of the upcoming monsoon, to minimize public inconvenience.

At the HMWSSB Shaikpet office, Ashok Reddy expressed concern that two 10-million-litre-capacity reservoirs built nearly a decade ago remain unused. He directed officials to conduct a detailed survey to identify areas that could benefit from the reservoirs and bring them into immediate use to improve the water supply in Shaikpet and nearby regions. He also reviewed the water treatment facility on-site.
