Relief for HMDA: HC refuses motion to stay Budvel land auction

Hyderabad: The Telangana High Court Advocates Association (THCAA), represented by its secretary, Katta Pratap Reddy, on Tuesday filed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) in the High Court seeking orders to suspend the e-auction of the lands at Budvel village, Rajendra Nagar mandal in RR district.

The HMDA issued a public notification on August 4, 2023, inviting bids for the auction of precious government lands in Budvel.

The petitioner argued that the state government had previously declared that it will allot 100 acres of land in survey numbers 282 and 299 in Budvel for the construction of a new high court building with world-class amenities for the benefit of litigants and advocates.

However, the petitioner argued, the state government has now issued a notification declaring the auction of government lands in Budvel to private persons.

Listing the reasons why there is a need for a new high court building, the petitioner said that some of the court halls were damaged due to heavy rains and during a fire accident on August 31, 2009. He also said that since the number of judges has increased from 24 to 42, there is an immediate need for a new building to house the High Court.

He said that the Registrar General of the Telangana HC has been in touch with the state government for the allotment of the 100 acres of government land in Budvel to the High Court. However, the state government has still went ahead with the land auction in Budvel.

Detailing the schedule for the auction, the petitioner said that the pre-bid meeting was held on August 6, the last date for registration was on August 8, and the last date for EMD payment is August 9. The date of the e-auction of the lands will be held on August 10, between 11 am to 2 pm, the petitioner said.
