TSRTC launches e-Garuda AC buses in Hyderabad

Hyderabad: Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) inaugurated e-Garuda AC buses at Miyapur.

The 10 electric buses are the first batch of 50 coaches that will ply between Hyderabad and Vijayawada.

Supplied by Olectra, these electric buses are equipped with advanced technology and can travel over 325 km on a single charge. They have GPS devices, fire detection systems, and three emergency exits. With 41 seats providing ample legroom, passengers can enjoy a comfortable journey.

This is part of the Telangana State Electric Vehicle Policy. It is aimed to promote eco-friendly public transportation.

Initially, TSRTC ordered 50 standard floor 12-meter electric coaches for travel between Hyderabad and Vijayawada. Olectra has already started delivering the buses within two months.

In addition to the existing fleet of 760 super luxury and AC sleeper buses, the introduction of these new electric buses increases TSRTC's total fleet to 10,000.

Transport Minister Ajay Puwada and TSRTC Chairman Bajireddy Govardhan flagged off the new electric buses on Tuesday, marking the launch of the Garuda bus service to Vijayawada. The state has received 10 out of the planned 50 e-buses, and the first trip to Vijayawada took place on the same day.

"This is an important step towards sustainability. With these new buses, we now have a fleet of 10,000 buses in the state," the minister said

Once all 50 buses are available, an electric AC bus to Vijayawada will depart every 20 minutes during the evenings. These buses have a range of up to 350 km on a single charge, making them suitable for the journey to Vijayawada.

TSRTC Chairman Bajireddy Govardhan said, "With approximately 50,000 people commuting between Hyderabad and Vijayawada/Rajahmundry daily, these buses will be a success. TSRTC's increased bus services will greatly improve transportation."

TSRTC Managing Director VC Sajjanar said 1,860 more e-buses will be added to the fleet within the next two years.
