HC lists PILs opposing allotment of 11 acres prime Kokapet land for HRD institute

Hyderabad: The Telangana High Court has listed PILs for hearing which challenge the decision of the previous BRS government in allotting 11 acres in Kokapet village, Gandipet mandal in RR District, to the party to establish an Institute of Excellence and Human Resource Development, at more than Rs 3 crores when the market value of the land in Kokapet runs into crores of rupees.

The Division Bench, comprising Chief Justice Alok Aradhe and Justice Anil Kumar Jukanti, directed the Registry of High Court to issue a number to the PIL and list it for hearing.

The Registry of High Court had raised some objections in the PIL filed by A Venkatrami Reddy, an advocate from Hyderabad. The Public Interest Litigation challenged the government allocation of 11 acres in survey numbers 239 and 240 of Kokapet village to the BRS party to establish an Institute of Excellence and Human Resource Development at Rs 3,41,25,000 when the market value of the land was in crores.

The petitionerā€™s contention before the court is that the BRS party was allotted the said government land in a prime area for establishing an Institute for Excellence and Human Resource Development even though Hyderabad city has such institutes such as Dr MCR HRD and others, which ā€˜clearly showed that the BRS governmentā€™s main intention behind this allotment of land in their favour is to knock off the prime precious land at a throwaway price.ā€™

The Registry of the High Court had raised some objections in the PIL, which were cleared and compiled by the petitioner and the same was informed to the Chief Justice Court by the counsel for the petitioner Chikkudu Prabhakar.

Another PIL, with the same content, is pending before the High Court. This PIL was filed by Forum for Good Governance (NGO), represented by its secretary M Padmanabha Reddy challenging the decision of the BRS Government to allot 11 acres of prime government land in Kokapet village to establish an Institute of Excellence and Human Resource Development.

On July 18, 2023, the Division Bench composed of Acting Chief Justice Abhinand Kumar Shavili and Justice N Rajeshwar Rao issued notices to the State government and the general secretary of the BRS party directing them to respond to the notices by August 16, 2023. That PIL was pending for adjudication.

The Chief Justice Bench will hear both PILs soon.
