Amarender Reddy filed a petition challenging the decision of the commissioner of police, Rachakonda, who directed him to deposit his firearm in view of the ensuing Telangana Assembly elections scheduled for November 30.
The counsel for the petitioner informed the court that the petitioner has a serious life threat from his political opponents and he was given an exemption from depositing his weapon during the 2018 State Assembly elections and general elections Lok Sabha in 2019. Despite the petitioner explaining the facts to the police, they have bluntly refused his plea and directed the petitioner to deposit his weapon, he said.
The contention of the counsel for the petitioner was vehemently opposed by the government pleader for home by stating that all persons in possession of weapons have deposited and the same instruction is given to the petitioner.
After listening to the arguments, Judge Bollam Vijaysen Reddy directed the commissioner of police, Rachakonda not to insist upon the petitioner to hand over his firearm for a couple of days and directed the GP for Home to get instructions in this issue.
