Hyderabad: On Tuesday, the Telangana High Court ordered the state government and the LB Nagar police to respond to the news article that reported the alleged attack on a tribal woman by the LB Nagar Police.
The Bench, comprising Chief Justice Alok Aradhe and Justice T Vinod Kumar, directed the police to furnish the CCTV footage of the place from where the woman, V Lakshmi, was taken away by the LB Nagar police on August 15 and the place where she was beaten. The court ordered the police to file a report in two weeks.
Justice Surepalli Nanda brought the incident to the notice of the Chief Justice through the news article. In her letter, Justice Surepalli Nanda informed the chief justice that the alleged attack by the LB Nagar Police on the tribal woman occurred on August 15. The police dragged the woman and hit her mercilessly and a probe must be ordered into the incident, the letter said.
The judge, not only sought a probe and action against the police who resorted to such an attack but also sought a direction to the police to register cases against the police personnel involved in this issue under the provisions of the STs (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989. Further, she said that the tribal woman had lost her money and gold ornaments, which should be traced and handed over to her.
The HC Bench sent notices to notices to the chief secretary, principal secretary Home Department, DGP, CP Rachakonda, DCP Rachakonda, ACP LB Nagar, and SHO LB Nagar directing them to respond to the content of the news article which appeared in a vernacular daily on August 20.
The case was adjourned by two weeks.
