HC seeks state’s response on fixing unsafe women’s hostel at Nizamia General Hospital

Hyderabad: On Tuesday, the Telangana High Court asked the state to respond to a PIL that highlighted the ‘deplorable and pathetic conditions’ of the women’s hostel at the Nizamia General Hospital, opposite Mecca Masjid in Moghalpura, Hyderabad.

The Division Bench, comprising Chief Justice Alok Aradhe and Justice NV Shravan Kumar, was adjudicating a PIL taken up from the news article of an English daily, which highlighted the shabby conditions in which the girls were staying in the hostel.

The report said that the hostel residents were living in a pitiable condition with no proper sanitation and hygiene in the rooms.

The premises were also not properly illuminated and the rooms were overcrowded. Further, the maternity ward in the hospital is in a dilapidated condition, putting the lives of patients in jeopardy.

The Division Bench issued notices to the chief secretary, principal secretary to the Government Medical and Health and Family Welfare; Telangana commissioner of Health and Family Welfare; director of Medical Education and the superintendent of the Nizamia General Hospital, seeking their response within six weeks.
