Hyderabad: The Telangana High Court asked the state government to submit a status report on the various facilities being provided in the government residential educational institutions across the state. This includes amenities and facilities such as bathrooms, toilets, pillows, mattresses, fire extinguishers, wardens etc., in the hostels in institutions such as Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Telangana BCs Welfare Residential Educational Institution Society, Telangana Social Welfare Residential Educational Institution Society, Telangana Tribal Welfare Residential Educational Institution Society, and Telangana Residential Institutions Society among many others.
A Division Bench, comprising Chief Justice Alok Aradhe and Justice T Vinod Kumar, issued notices to the chief secretary, principal secretaries of the School Education Department, Social Welfare Department, Scheduled Caste Development Department, Tribal Welfare Department, Minority Welfare Department and all the Residential Educational Institutions across the Telangana State, directing them to respond to the notices within three weeks.
The court was hearing a PIL filed by MK Akhil Sri Guru Teja, team leader, working in BA Continuum India Pvt. Ltd. in Madhapur. The petitioner filed the PIL after being disappointed by the inaction of the state in providing basic amenities and facilities to the government residential educational institutions for children as mandated in the guidelines of the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR).
The case was adjourned by three weeks.
