Advice on protecting oneself from weather

Thunderstorms, Lightning, and Hailstorms: The risk levels are minor to very high impact on loose/unsecured structures. Damage is possible to thatched and kutcha structures, vehicles, trees and electric poles.

It is advised to monitor weather updates and move to safer places if necessary. Avoid taking shelter under trees and stay away from weak walls. Farmers should follow alerts and adjust operations accordingly.

Rainfall: The risk levels of water pooling on roads and low-lying areas, leading to traffic congestion and wet, slippery roads are high.

Trees and electric poles might fall and there might be potential social disturbances due to disrupted electricity and water supply. Municipal corporations should issue advisories for clearing water and managing traffic.

Response forces such as the electricity and water departments should be prepared to take necessary action.

ā€œWith the formation of a low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal, we expect heavy rainfall across various districts in Telangana,ā€ said Dr K Naga Ratna, scientist and head of the Meteorological Centre, Hyderabad.

ā€œWe advise people to take necessary precautions and stay updated with our weather alerts through the Mausam, Damini and Meghdoot apps,ā€ he added.
