5-6 hours power cut

Several places in the city also witnessed power failures. Some of the areas in the city faced power cuts for around 5-6 hours. Balanagar, Ameerpet, Shaikpet, and Nizampet also faced long hours of power cuts. Some of the frustrated residents took to Twitter to raise their grievances.

"Why every time feeder trips sir and there is a power cut for 5 to 6 hours. God knows how the electricity department works," Ravindra tweeted.

Most of the roads in the city were also flooded in the rains worsened by the overflowing water pipes on roadsides with extreme pressure especially at PVNR Expressway Attapur in Rajendra Nagar causing trouble to pedestrians and vehicles traveling that route.

Thunderstorms during monsoon showers

Last night's rains were accompanied by lightning and thunderstorms. Usually, lightning and thunderstorms occur along with pre-monsoon and post-monsoon showers.

"The monsoons have just started and there is a lot of heat still present in the atmosphere. Monsoon rains during June and September months are accompanied by lightning and thunder due to excess land heat," explained independent weather observer Mahaboob Khan popularly called Weather Brother.
