Heavy rains wreak havoc, Vailpur records 464 mm in 6 hours; many Hyderabad areas inundated

Hyderabad: Vailpur in the Nizamabad district witnessed a record rainfall of 464 mm in six hours.

India Meteorological Department in Hyderabad had issued a red alert warning of extremely heavy rain in numerous areas over the next three days.

State roads and buildings minister, Vemula Prashant Reddy, who toured the rain-ravaged parts of Vailpur with district collector Rajiv Gandhi Hanumanthu, told reporters that such high rainfall was unique in Telangana's history.

He stated that the IMD has designated five red zones for exceptionally high rainfall throughout the state. Five of which were in the Nizamabad district alone. They include Perkit, Vailpur, Bhimgal, Konasamandar, and Jakranpalli.

While Perkit had 332.3 mm of rain overnight, Bheemgal received 264.8 mm, Konasamandar received 227 mm, and Jakranpalli received 222.3 mm.

"Fortunately, no human lives were lost," the minister added, "but the extremely heavy rain in a short period resulted in crop destruction, road, and house damage."

He directed the district authorities to relocate individuals in low-lying regions to relief facilities and to provide them with food and water. Those living in decaying structures will also be relocated to safer areas, he added.

Several districts, including Mahabubabad, Warangal, Hanumakonda, Khammam, Nalgonda, Suryapet, Rangareddy, Vikarabad, Sangareddy, Medak, and Kamareddy, may witness heavy to very severe rainfall in the next three days, according to IMD Hyderabad director Nagarathna.

"We issued an orange alert for these districts," she explained.

Similarly, districts like Mulugu, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Khammam, Nalgonda, Suryapet, Jangaon, Siddipet, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Warangal, Hanumakonda, Kamareddy, Karimnagar, Peddapalli, Mancherial, Nirmal, Nalgonda, Hyderabad, Medchal Malkajgiri and Mahabubnagar might also experience severe rains. "The situation will last until Sunday or possibly longer," she stated.

The high to extremely heavy rains, she explained, were caused by an upper-air cyclonic circulation over West Central Bay and its surrounding areas. "Over the next 24 hours, this upper air circulation is likely to intensify wind towards low-pressure areas." "This reaches up to 7.6 km above mean sea level," she explained.

Heavy rains ranging from 35 mm to 70 mm in different parts of Hyderabad on Wednesday night resulted in the inundation of numerous low-lying areas, bringing regular life to a standstill.

Rainwater entered Saidabad and Singareni Officers' Colony residential areas, causing serious problems for people. A similar scenario existed at Kodandaram Nagar, as well as a few colonies in the Saroornagar region. Gajularamaram and Malkampet colonies were also flooded. People were evacuated from the low-lying waterlogged area to safer areas.

For hours, there were traffic jams in various places, particularly in the information technology corridors of Madhapur, Gachibowli, Raidurgam, and nearby districts. After heavy rains the previous night, the region has become gridlocked. Financial District, Jubilee Hills, Banjara Hills, Begumpet, Mehdipatnam, Punjagutta, Koti, Abids, and other places had a similar situation.

Personnel from the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation's (GHMC) Disaster Response Force (DRF) teams and the police worked all night to clean the fallen trees and water stagnation areas.

Crocodiles and snakes have been sighted in floods

Following heavy rains, crocodiles have been discovered in two regions in Telangana. A large number of crocodiles were sighted entering the Krishna River near Pasupula village in Makthal Mandal in the Narayanapet district. Meanwhile, a lone crocodile has been discovered on a rock in Sun City, Himayath Nagar.

In the Alwal region of Hyderabad, a snake and flood water entered the home of a man called Sampath Kumar. Even after 6 hours of protesting against GHMC officials, there was no reaction. Sampath Kumar, frustrated, brought the snake to the GHMC ward office and placed it on the table in protest.
