Hyderabad: Hyderabad police has made helmet compulsory for motorcycle borne cops and pillion riders in the city.

In its order, Hyderabad Police Commissioner Anjani Kumar said it has come to the notice that police personnel driving two-wheelers and their pillion riders are not wearing helmets.

"The police department is drawing a lot of criticism. Social media complaints are being received. People are saying that drivers and pillion riders are being booked for not wearing helmets, but police personnel riding two-wheelers are not following rules," said Anjani Kumar.

The commissioner of police has instructed all the DCPs /Joint CPs and vertical heads of Hyderabad City Police to sensitize men to wear helmets while riding the two-wheelers. He has asked that both driver and pillion rider should wear helmets.

He also mentioned that section 129 of the Motor Vehicle Act, 1988 very clearly says that both the driver and the rider shall wear a helmet. He told the vertical heads that all the staff working under them should follow section 129 of the Indian Motor-vehicle Act.
