Hi-Tech city's Chicha's booked for no MRP, expiry dates on goli soda bottles

Hyderabad: The popular Chicha's restaurant in Hi-tech city has been booked by Legal Metrology, Ranga Reddy zone, for violating certain clauses of the Legal Metrology Act and selling goli sodas without mentioning the MRP and manufacturing and expiry dates on the bottles.

On 26 October, Vinay Vangala, a resident of Hyderabad, noticed that the restaurant was selling goli soda but the bottles did not carry details like MRP, manufacturing date, and expiry date. He sent an email complaint to the Controller of Legal Metrology.

"I would like to register a complaint against Chicha's restaurant situated at Hi-Tech city for no MRP, and no manufacturing date on goli sodas. I request you to book cases against the establishment and impose a heavy penalty for flouting the Legal Metrology rules," said Vinay in his complaint. He attached photos of the product.

In response to Vinay's complaint, the Legal Metrology team of Ranga Reddy-Shamshabad zone visited the restaurant on 7 November and inspected the premises. On finding violations of the Legal Metrology rules, they booked the restaurant.

"During the course of inspections, two cases have been registered for contravention of sections 8/25, 24/33, and 18/36 of the Legal Metrology Act, 2009 read with Rule 6(1) a, 6(2), 4, 18(1), and 6(3) of the TS Legal Metrology Enforcement Rules, 2011," the team said.

The Legal Metrology Act is aimed to establish and enforce uniform standards of weights and measures. It was introduced in 2009 but was implemented with effect from 2011.

"Generally, consumers should check all these details for safety and if they find any such things, they should report the same to the Legal Metrology department," said Vinay.
