HMWSSB chief Ashok Reddy sets April 2026 as deadline for Sunkishala project
Hyderabad: In a major push to accelerate the cityās water infrastructure development, HMWSSB managing director Ashok Reddy has set an April 2026 deadline for the completion of the Sunkishala intake well project, which is vital for bringing Krishna River water to Hyderabad.
Top officials and experts visit project site
On Tuesday, Ashok Reddy visited the Sunkishala project site along with the CEO and director of Megha Engineering, professors from IIT-Hyderabad, representatives from TCS, and gate design expert Kannaiah Naidu. The team assessed the progress of ongoing civil and pipeline works and reviewed the upcoming phases of the project.
Pipeline expansion reviewed, quality stressed
The MD, accompanied by senior officials, inspected the pipeline expansion work and sought updates on the pending stretches. He stressed that there should be no compromise on construction quality and urged that pipeline work be accelerated ahead of the monsoon season.
Detailed discussion on redesign and civil work
Ashok Reddy held a technical meeting with the construction agency and engineering experts to discuss redesign plans, safety measures and structural improvements. Officials noted that after clearing debris from damaged retaining walls, pending civil works and control room construction must be completed quickly to facilitate further progress.
Tunnel and gate works inspected
The MD also reviewed the tunnel plugging works near the Nagarjuna Sagar reservoir and discussed gate design specifics with expert Kannaiah Naidu. He emphasised the importance of finalising all designs and drawings related to reconstruction within 15 days.
Final phase underway, work nearing completion
According to Ashok Reddy, most of the pipeline expansion has been completed, except for a 4-kilometre stretch. Electrical works are also in the final stage. He directed teams to clear collapsed retaining structures and begin reconstruction at the earliest.
Construction agency directed to meet the deadline
Concluding the visit, Ashok Reddy instructed Megha Engineering and project officials to ensure that the entire project is completed by April 2026, setting a clear timeline for delivery.
