HMWSSB cuts 4 illegal sewer connections in Kakatiya Hills, issues notices to 4 more
Hyderabad: Cracking down on unauthorised sewer connections, officials of the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) on Tuesday disconnected illegal sewerage lines of four apartment buildings in Kakatiya Hills under O&M Division–15.
Notices were also served on four other building owners for similar violations.
Illegal connections led to sewage overflow on main road
According to officials, several apartment owners in the Kakatiya Hills area had laid sewer pipeline connections without obtaining mandatory permission from the Water Board.
The excessive discharge from these unauthorised lines frequently led to sewage overflow on the main road, causing inconvenience to residents and commuters.
Inspection reveals violations
The issue came to light during a recent field inspection by local officials.
Acting on the directions of the Managing Director, the enforcement teams on Tuesday removed the sewer connections of four apartments found to be violating norms and initiated action against others by issuing notices.
Consumers with illegal connections warned
HMWSSB Managing Director Ashok Reddy urged consumers with unauthorised sewer or drain (nalla) connections to immediately regularise them as per rules.
He also reiterated that hospitals, hotels, bakeries, malls and other commercial establishments, as well as multi-storey residential complexes, must compulsorily install silt chambers to prevent blockages and overflow.
Warning of criminal action
Officials warned that criminal cases would be booked against anyone found taking illegal drinking water, drain or sewer pipeline connections without approval from the Water Board.
Public can report violations
Citizens who come across illegal drain or sewer connections can report them to the Water Board’s vigilance wing by calling 9989998100 or 9989987135, officials said.
