HMWSSB launches ₹2.5 crore pipeline project to end night water supply in SPR Hills, Borabanda, Rahmath Nagar

Hyderabad: Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) has taken up the construction of a new feeder main pipeline at a cost of ₹2.5 crore to address irregular and late-night water supply issues.

The pipeline will provide a major relief to residents of the SPR Hills, Borabanda, and Rahmath Nagar areas.

HMWSSB Managing Director Ashok Reddy on Tuesday inspected the ongoing pipeline works at SPR Hills and directed officials to expedite the project and complete it by Ugadi.

He instructed engineers to increase manpower and deploy additional work gangs, if necessary, to meet the deadline.

Addressing long-standing water supply issues

Speaking during the inspection, Ashok Reddy said that due to inadequate storage capacity in the SPR Hills area, residents in some localities were receiving water only once in three days. In several slum pockets, water was being supplied during late-night hours, causing inconvenience and low-pressure problems.

To address these issues, the government had earlier constructed a 3-million-litre reservoir at a cost of ₹5.7 crore last year, benefiting 52 bastis in Borabanda and Rahmath Nagar divisions. The reservoir was completed in a record time of one-and-a-half years and inaugurated in May 2025 by Telangana Transport and BC Welfare Minister and Hyderabad In-charge Minister Ponnam Prabhakar.

New pipeline to improve daytime supply

Currently, water is being supplied on alternate days from 4:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. to these 52 bastis. However, to ensure regular supply during daytime hours and eliminate night-time distribution, the Water Board has taken up the construction of:

A 450 mm diameter MS water pipeline from the SPR Hills Reservoir to the Brahmashankar Nagar Temple

A 300 mm diameter MS-DI pipeline from Brahmashankar Nagar Temple to Karmik Nagar Auto Stand

Officials said the completion of this feeder main will significantly improve water pressure and ensure daytime supply in Karmik Nagar and Brahmashankar Nagar, while eliminating the need for late-night distribution.

Plan to phase out night water supply across the city

The MD also directed officials to identify other areas in the city where water is being supplied during night hours and submit detailed reports. He instructed them to prepare a comprehensive plan to ensure that the water supply across all areas is provided between morning and evening hours.

CGM Prabhu, GMs, and other senior officials participated in the inspection.
