Hospitals to crematorium: How encroachers gobble up land earmarked for public utilities in Hyderabad

Hyderabad:Toughing its stand against encroachments, HYDRAA has vowed to preserve all parks, roads, and public utility spaces designated in approved residential layouts.

HYDRAA Commissioner AV Ranganath emphasized that these community assets are non-negotiable and must be protected for the well-being of citizens.

During the weekly Prajavani public grievance program held on Monday, the authority received 58 complaints, the majority of which related to the encroachment of parks, roads, and lands earmarked for public use.

Layouts are the legal blueprint: Commissioner

HYDRAA made it clear that all decisions regarding civic infrastructure will be based strictly on the original layout plans.

The Commissioner warned against blocking roads or encroaching on designated parks, urging citizens to respect the civic blueprint and not fall prey to land grabbers.

Commissioner Ranganath personally reviewed the complaints with the support of Google Maps, NRSC, and Survey of India data, as well as revenue and village records.

Instructions were issued on the spot to asset protection officials to conduct ground inspections, and complaint resolution timelines were fixed in the presence of complainants.

Kuruma community seeks protection of ancestral cremation ground

In Secunderabad, members of the Kuruma community alleged that a 2,000-square-yard cremation ground allotted by the then Secunderabad Municipality has now been encroached upon.

Residents of Sri Sai Krishna Colony in Bachupally (Medchal–Malkajgiri district) complained about the encroachment of a 1,700-square-yard park area, allocated within a 4.8-acre layout.

Despite fencing efforts by Nizampet Municipality, alleged encroachers obtained a court stay and halted the work. Locals presented documentary proof of prior public use, including Bathukamma festivities and children’s recreation, and requested that the park be officially restored.

Road blocked in Gandipet, hundreds affected

In Gandipet village under Ranga Reddy district, residents reported that a 25-foot road marked in Survey No. 69 layout has been encroached.

Despite the existence of power lines and drinking water pipelines on both sides of the path, private individuals are allegedly claiming ownership, threatening locals, and obstructing passage, cutting off access for several hundred families.

Public land for hospital at risk in Bhagat Singh Nagar

A land parcel measuring 3,500 square yards in Bhagat Singh Nagar (Quthbullapur Mandal), reserved for public purposes, is also under threat.

The local Government Hospital Land Protection Committee informed HYDRAA that the space was earmarked for a hospital and had even received GHMC funds previously.

They demanded swift intervention to prevent further encroachment and to ensure the land is used for its intended public purpose.

Commissioner promises swift, transparent action

Commissioner Ranganath assured citizens that no encroachment will be tolerated and each complaint will be addressed on a time-bound basis.

He directed officials to take up field verification immediately and uphold the sanctity of planned urban spaces. Citizens were urged to report violations through official channels, with HYDRAA committing to act swiftly and transparently.
