How burglars Biryani addiction helped police to crack house robberies in Hyderabad

Hyderabad police on Wednesday arrested an inter-state house burglar with the help of a biryani order slip. Identified as Syed Aejaz aka Imran, he always used to order Hyderabad biryani from Sohail Restaurant in Chanderghat on Zomato. And that became his nemesis and blew his cover.

Police zeroed in on him with help of all the Hyderabad Biryani orders he placed after looting houses.

ACP Malakpet N Venkata Ramana said that the accused always ordered Hyderabad biryani from Sohail Restaurant in Chanderghat on Zomato.

On May 13, Syed Iftequar Uddin, a car mechanic left home to visit his uncle. When he returned the next day, he saw his house lock partially broken.

He noticed that the gold ornaments and cash worth Rs 5 lakh were missing from the lockers. Based on Iftequar's complaint, a case was registered.

"We observed that a zomato order was placed from close to the house which was to be delivered to a random location nearby. We found that the number being used to place the order was from Bangalore. A special team arrested Imran in Bangalore," the ACP said.

Similarly, the accused repeatedly ordered from the same restaurant every time after breaking into houses in Hyderabad. "We looked into the data and secured the number of the accused. Later we arrested him," he explained.

Imran confessed to four other crimes. He was booked for the offense under Hussaini Alam and Dabeerpura police stations. Primarily from Bangalore, he has been traveling to Hyderabad since 2018 to commit house burglary. He was previously involved in house burglary cases in Bangalore and Mysore.

Malakpet police have booked Imran under sections 454 and 380 of the Indian Penal Code for trespassing houses and committing theft in residential complexes respectively.

Police seized 85 grams of gold and Rs 2.5 lakh cash.
