HPS: Four top global CEOs remember Hyderabad roots; to donate ₹300 Cr to alma mater
Hyderabad: Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, Adobe CEO Shantanu Narayen, World Bank Group Chairman Ajay Banga, and Fairfax Financial Holdings Chairman Prem Watsa have collectively decided to contribute ₹300 crore to their alma mater -- Hyderabad Public School (HPS).
The donations will support the institution’s infrastructure development, as it works toward its long-term vision of becoming a global top-tier school.
300-Crore Figure Mentioned by Chief Minister
Speaking at a CREDAI (Confederation of Real Estate Developers’ Associations of India) expo in Hyderabad on Friday, Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy announced that Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, Adobe CEO Shantanu Narayen, World Bank Group Chairman Ajay Banga, and Fairfax Financial Holdings Chairman Prem Watsa had collectively decided to contribute ₹300 crore to their alma mater.
“The four alumni of HPS have decided to donate ₹300 crore to the school for building a new facility at the school. When the file seeking conversion of the land was being processed, I immediately cleared it,” the Chief Minister said.
He added that the leaders had also expressed interest in contributing their expertise.
“They want to give back to the city where they studied,” he said.
School Official Clarifies Amount
A senior HPS official, while confirming the alumni’s financial support, noted that the figure cited by the Chief Minister was higher than the actual commitment.
“It, however, is decent money,” the official said, declining to reveal the exact amount.
Plans for New Infrastructure
The official explained that the contributions would be directed toward expanding and upgrading the school’s facilities.
“The funds will be used to build a new building and renovate some of the classrooms,” he said.
Vision 2050 and Alumni Support
As part of its centenary celebrations two years ago, HPS announced a ₹150-crore plan aimed at transforming the institution into one of the Top 10 schools globally by 2050. The strategy includes infrastructure modernisation, technology integration, and enhanced academic programs.
The school has a long list of accomplished alumni in fields ranging from science and technology to arts and sports. In recent years, it has actively sought engagement from former students to support its growth plans, with several visiting during the centenary year to explore collaboration opportunities.
