Hundreds of crores in unpaid bills: TGSPDCL warns power defaulters of public action
Hyderabad: The Southern Power Distribution Company of Telangana Limited (TGSPDCL) has intensified efforts to recover outstanding electricity dues amounting to hundreds of crores by launching a special recovery drive targeting both High Tension (HT) and Low Tension (LT) bill-stopped services.
Notice boards outside defaulter premises
As part of the initiative, TSSPDCL has begun installing notice boards in front of premises with bill-stop HT services, publicly displaying the total dues owed by each defaulter. The move aims to pressure defaulters to clear their pending amounts.
728 HT connections owe Rs 600 crore
According to Musharraf Farooqui, IAS, chairman and managing director of TSSPDCL, there are currently 728 bill-stopped HT connections within the companyās jurisdiction that are not in use but have accrued dues totalling Rs 600 crore.
Despite repeated attempts to contact the concerned parties, no payments were made, prompting the latest measures.
Over 9 lakh LT services in arrears
In addition to HT services, the CMD revealed that there are 9.19 lakh bill-stopped LT connections with pending dues of approximately Rs 188 crore. The special drive is prioritising recovery from the most delinquent HT defaulters, and so far, around Rs 100 crore has been collected.
Warning for property buyers
TGSPDCL has cautioned prospective property buyers to verify if electricity dues are pending against properties they intend to purchase. Under current regulations, new electricity connections will not be granted until previous dues are cleared, regardless of ownership change.
The company has shared details of these outstanding dues and linked properties with the Registration Department and district collectors to ensure compliance.
Legal action to recover dues
CMD Musharraf Farooqui stated that TGSPDCL is making all necessary arrangements to utilise every legal avenue available to recover pending dues efficiently.
