Hussain Sagar constructions: TS HC disposes of PIL; GHMC says structure temporary
As per the affidavit, only a temporary structure has been erected for parking mechanized sweeping machines.
By Newsmeter Network Published on 17 Nov 2022 2:34 AM GMTTelangana High Court disposed of the Public Interest Litigation (PIL) after GHMC affirmed that only a temporary structure has been erected at the Hussain Sagar lake and it will not affect the water flow.
A division bench of Chief Justice Ujjal Bhuyan and Justice CV Bhaskar Reddy was hearing PIL filed by Save Our Urban Lakes (SOUL) represented by its former convener Dr. Jasveen Jairath.
The petitioner had alleged that GHMC is filling up land and taking up construction activity opposite Sanjeevaiah Park, Hussain Sagar Lake, Hyderabad, which falls within the water-spread area.
The petitioner prayed to the court to direct the government to remove the constructions and restore the pristine glory of the lake. It urged the court to bar the authorities to raise structures on the land.
Counsel for GHMC informed the Court that Commissioner DS Lokesh Kumar appeared before the Court and submitted the affidavit on September 2.
As per the affidavit, only a temporary structure has been erected for parking mechanized sweeping machines.
GHMC Commissioner said the construction of the temporary structure will not at all affect the water flow into Hussain Sagar Lake.
Regarding the construction of pillars, he said they were erected only to strengthen the temporary structure which can be removed at any time.
"GHMC is taking all steps to prevent any untoward constructions in Hussain Sagar Lake," he added.
After noting the averments of the affidavit, the court disposed of the PIL, which was pending since 2012.
