Hyderabad: The Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) of Hyderabad Customs seized gold weighing 4,895 grams valued at nearly Rs. 2 crores. The gold was seized from a male passenger who was travelling to Hyderabad from Dubai.
The gold was concealed inside an air compressor in the form of a cylindrical silver block of 24 karat.
In another case, the Hyderabad Customs intercepted two male passengers arriving from Dubai and seized 24 gold bars concealed inside their check-in baggage. The total weight of the gold seized is 2,800 grams and is valued at Rs. 1.47 crores.
In a third case, two passengers who arrived at RGIA Hyderabad were found to be carrying 12 gold bars of 24K purity in their check-in baggage and had attempted to cross the Customs Green Channel with the intention to evade Customs duty. The gold, weighing 1,400 gms, was seized. Further investigation is in progress.
