Hyderabad: Dr. M. Srinivas, dean of ESIC Hospital and Medical College, Hyderabad, has been appointed the director of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi, with immediate effect. Dr. Srinvias will replace Dr. Randeep Guleria who is the serving director of AIIMS. There were 32 eminent doctors whose names were under consideration for the post and Dr. Srinivas was shortlisted.

The final list presented before the Appointment Committee of the Cabinet had four names from which Dr. Srinvias was selected.

Dr. Srinivas, a professor in the department of pediatric surgery at AIIMS, New Delhi was sent to Hyderabad in 2016 to revive ESIC Hospital and Medical college in Hyderabad.

A successful journey

From 2016 to 2022, the process of revival made ESIC Hospital in Hyderabad one of the busiest hospitals in the country. In February 2016, when Dr. Srinivas was sent from New Delhi, the hospital was only a building with only a few doctors. The facility now has 300 plus doctors and 800 support staff.

Use of technology for hospital functioning

From recruitment to attendance to casual leave, the hospital and medical college have adapted new technology for their functioning. The hospital has a biometric attendance which ensures that doctors and support staff work full-time at the hospital. Technology has also helped them curb referrals, corruption, and nepotism inside the hospital in terms of bribery and kickbacks.

The system has been defined in a manner where there is no room for bribery or recommendations for the faculty or the staff.

Dr. Srinivas believes that building institution is more important than concentrating on individuals. As he dons a new role in the premier institute of the country, ESIC Hospital and Medical College is a chapter he is proud of.
