Hyderabad: 16 injured after suffering electric shock in swimming pool at Jalpally; no complaint filed
According to the victims, 56 people from three families of Agapura had gone to the Floral Valley farmhouse for a recreational outing

According to the victims, 56 people from three families of Agapura had gone to the Floral Valley farmhouse for a recreational outing.
A family outing gone wrong
Sixteen people including six women and five children decided to have fun in the swimming pool. However, when they were busy enjoying, a high-tension wire, dislodged by strong winds, came into contact with a nearby coconut tree, causing an electrical charge to surge in the water.
The victims of the incident said that the high tension wire fell on the light pole near the swimming pool, leading to severe passage of current.
"The high-tension wire fell on the light pole due to the strong winds. The light pole blasted due to the higher volume of current. The swimming pool was next to the light pole and it cause a major surge of electric charge in the water leading to electric shock," said a victim who is now recovering in the hospital.
2 of them are critical
Parvez (19) and Imtiyaz (22), swimming in the middle of the pool, could not escape.
The high voltage fo power blasted the electric meter of the farm house, cutting off the electric supply.
Both Parvez and Imtiyaz sustained severe injuries and were rushed to the hospital, where medical staff reported their condition as critical.
Short circuit in the pool
Witnesses and victims reported that the accident was due to a short circuit from the lighting arrangements installed inside the swimming pool. The surge of electric current in the swimming pool led to many of the swimmers suffering from electric shock.
There was no time for the family members to understand what was going wrong as they were busy trying to remove those who were in the pool.
The shutdown of electric supply due to the blast in the meter was a boon as it stopped the electric surge in the pool.
Till now no complaint has been filed and no case has been registered, said Pahadi Shariff police.
