Hyderabad: 7-year-old girl dies after mother allegedly pushes her from apartment in Malkajgiri

Hyderabad: In a shocking and tragic incident, a seven-year-old girl lost her life after being allegedly pushed from the third floor of an apartment by her mother.

The incident occurred in Vasanthapuri Colony under the Malkajgiri police station limits on Monday evening. However, the incident came to light on Tuesday after the news went viral on social media. The woman was identified as Monalisa and the deceased child was identified as Sharon Mary.

The injured girl was immediately taken to Gandhi Hospital

Malkajgiri CI Satyanarayana said the incident occurred in the Gautam Nagar area when Sharon Mary was pushed from the apartment building and fell onto the staircase of a neighbouring structure.

She suffered severe injuries in the fall. Locals immediately alerted emergency services and shifted the critically injured girl to Gandhi Hospital.

Mother suffers from mental health issues

Despite medical efforts, the child succumbed to her injuries while undergoing treatment at the hospital, he said.

The CI further said that the victim’s family has been residing in Vasanthapuri Colony for nearly two decades. The father is employed with a private company and is the sole breadwinner of the family. Preliminary investigation revealed that the mother has been suffering from mental health issues for some time.

Mother in custody, probe on

The Malkajgiri police have registered a case in connection with the incident.

“We took Monalisa into custody and launched a detailed investigation to ascertain the circumstances leading to the child’s death. Further action will be taken based on the findings of the probe,” the CI said.
