Hyderabad: 70,000 2BHK houses distribution to begin from next week

Hyderabad: The first phase of distribution of 70,000 2 BHK houses by the Telangana government will begin in a week.

Said to be Asia's largest 2BHK dignity housing project, the Telangana state government embarked upon the construction of these houses to provide a dignified living to needy families. Essential amenities in the complex include a sewage treatment plant, drinking water, schools, and hospitals. The complex features modern facilities like CCTV cameras for security, two lifts per floor, and commercial shops for income generation and community welfare.

On Wednesday, Municipal Administration & Urban Development (MA&UD) Minister KT Rama Rao held a high-level review meeting on distribution of double-bedroom houses in Hyderabad limits at Pragathi Bhavan. A week ahead of the distribution, KTR asked the GHMC officials to make all the preparations.

According to the officials, the construction of 70,000 homes was completed and is ready for distribution. The process of handing over the houses to eligible beneficiaries is progressing at a brisk pace, and the verification process of applicants who have already submitted their applications is near completion.

"As against the target to construct 1 lakh 2 BHK houses in the GHMC limits, 75,000 double-bedroom houses were constructed. Of these, nearly 4,500 houses were already handed over to in-situ beneficiaries. Nearly 70,000 houses which are ready to be handed over to the beneficiaries will be distributed in five to six phases," said Minister KTR in a statement.

Meanwhile, the officials are identifying the beneficiaries by conducting field visits devoid of any political interference. The Minister also discussed the identification of beneficiaries of Gruha Lakshmi Scheme and the need to expedite the process of taking the scheme forward.
