RGI Airport police inspector and SI caught taking Rs 2 lakh bribe for ‘favour’ in criminal case
Hyderabad: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Tuesday caught two police officials attached to the RGI Airport Police Outpost while allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 2 lakh, part of a larger Rs 5 lakh demand, for extending official favours in a criminal case.
Bribe for ‘favour’ in criminal case
The accused officials have been identified as Inspector of Police Sampathi Kanakaiah and Sub-Inspector UK Siddeshwar.
According to ACB officials, the duo demanded Rs 5 lakh from a complainant to file a chargesheet in a case registered at RGI Airport Police Station, Shamshabad, and to refrain from involving or arresting the complainant’s family members.
Acting on a complaint, the ACB’s Ranga Reddy Range unit laid a trap on April 7 and caught the officers red-handed while accepting Rs 2 lakh as part payment of the demanded bribe.
Disproportionate assets suspected
During subsequent searches at the residence of Inspector Kanakaiah, ACB officials seized unaccounted cash amounting to Rs 33.97 lakh.
In addition, several property documents were recovered and are currently under scrutiny to ascertain possible disproportionate assets.
Both officials have been arrested and will be produced before the I Additional Special Judge for SPE and ACB Cases in Nampally for judicial remand. The case is under further investigation, and the identity of the complainant has been withheld for security reasons.
ACB helpline for public
The ACB has urged citizens to report instances of bribery by public servants through its toll-free helpline 1064.
Complaints can also be lodged via WhatsApp (9440446106) or through ACB Telangana’s official social media platforms. Authorities assured that the identity of the complainants will be kept confidential.
