Hyderabad: Believe it or not, an IPS officer’s passport and ATM cards were stolen from the Police Officers' Mess in Masab Tank.
Additional Director General of Police Dr. Soumya Mishra filed a complaint at Masab Tank Police Station on August 4 and a case has been registered on Friday.
The incident occurred on April 10, when Dr. Mishra was on her way back from an inter-cadre state deputation. She had chosen to stay at the Officers' Mess for 31 days during her return. It was during her stay that the theft took place. However, she did not lodge complaint immediately.
Dr. Soumya Mishra had kept her present passport and two old passports along with two ATM cards, in the lower drawer of the set near her bed. On April 10 this year, in a hurry to attend to urgent work, she unknowingly left her passports and ATM cards in the drawer.
It was only after her return from election duty in Karnataka that Dr. Mishra realized she had left her essential documents and cards behind. Upon contacting the Mess Reception, she was informed that the room was checked, and the only items found were two dumbbells.
Feeling a sense of concern, she revisited the Officers Mess and confirmed her fears. Her passports and ATM cards were nowhere to be found in the drawer. Realizing the gravity of the situation, Dr. Soumya Mishra blocked the ATM cards to prevent any unauthorized transactions.
Following the theft, Dr. Mishra reported the incident to Bhanumurthy, the Assistant Commandant in charge of the Officers' Mess at Masab Tank. She urged him to investigate the matter thoroughly and also offered a reward for any information leading to the recovery of her stolen belongings. Despite their efforts, no one has come forward with information regarding the perpetrator of the theft.
Based on the complaint, Masab Tank police registered a case under Section 380 of the Indian Penal Code.
