Hyderabad airport's new cab pick-up location causing inconvenience, say gig workers

Hyderabad: The Telangana Gig and Platform Workers’ Union (TGPWU) has appealed to the management of Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) to move the cab pick-up point for commercial vehicles back to the C Parking Space, citing inconvenience to drivers, passengers, VIPs and guests after its recent shift to H Parking.

In a post on X, TGPWU Founder President Shaik Salauddin said, “Drivers, passengers, VIPs and Guests at RGIA are facing trouble after cab pickup moved from C Parking to H Parking. We urge RGIA to restore C Parking pickup for commercial vehicles to ensure comfort and convenience for all.”

‘Longer walking distances due to change’

In a letter dated August 12, addressed to the Transport Management, AGM Ground Transportation Operations, GMR Hyderabad International Airport Ltd., the union stated that the change in the cab pick-up location has created ‘significant inconvenience, including longer walking distances for passengers—particularly for VIPs and guests—and operational challenges for drivers.’

The letter further read: “We kindly request that the pickup location for customers, especially for commercial vehicles, be retained at the C Parking Space as earlier. We believe this step will greatly improve convenience for passengers, VIPs and guests, while also ensuring smooth operations for drivers.”

Speaking to NewsMeter, Shaik Salauddin said, “The shift from C Parking to H Parking has made it harder for passengers, especially elderly people and VIP guests, to reach their cabs. Drivers are also struggling to manage the additional operational delays. Restoring the pick-up to C Parking will benefit everyone.”
