Hyderabad: Andhra Pradesh High Court (AP HC) judge Justice V Sujatha who suffered injuries in a car accident on Sunday in Suryapet district will undergo spinal and orthopedic surgeries in the city.

The judge, who is currently undergoing treatment at Apollo Hospital, Filmnagar, Hyderabad, is conscious and stable, doctors said.

On Sunday, Justice Sujatha was en route to Vijayawada from Hyderabad when she met with an accident in Suryapet district of Telangana.

Police said the incident occurred in Chivvemla Mandal of Suryapet district when her driver lost control of the car apparently due to rain.

After being alerted by some passersby, a police team rushed to the spot and shifted the judge to a hospital in Suryapet. A police official said the judge had sustained injuries and had received a couple of stitches, but her condition was stable. He added that the car driver had also suffered minor injuries in the mishap.

Telangana Energy minister G Jagadish Reddy later brought the judge to Hyderabad in his convoy for better medical care. She was admitted to Apollo Hospitals, Filmnagar on Monday morning. The ambulance was placed in the middle of the minister’s convoy and it was ensured she could reach the hospital at the earliest.

Dr. Alok Ranjan and Dr. Prabhat Lakkireddy of Apollo Hospital said Justice Sujatha is in ACCU. “She has suffered cervical spine injury, C2 burst fracture, and fractures in the fingers of her left hand. There is no head injury, she is conscious and her condition is stable. She will be shortly undergoing spinal and ortho-related surgeries,” said Dr Alok.
