Hyderabad-based SVAG Pet Homes unveils Barkitecture product line for dogs

Hyderabad: Hyderabad-based SVAG Pet Homes LLP launched Barkitecture, a new segment of products designed exclusively for dogs, including villas, pods and furniture.

Additionally, the startup has also launched the Barkkey Foundation to promote responsible pet parenting and welfare initiatives for stray dogs.

Barkitecture: Architecture for dogs

Barkitectureā€”combining architecture and petsā€”is a dog-centric approach to interior design. The concept focuses on creating dedicated spaces for dogs to rest, recharge and feel safe.

Speaking about the trend, co-founder Vishal Bothra said, ā€œBarkitecture is the latest interiors trend for pet lovers. Itā€™s about designing a specific area in the home based on your petā€™s personal needs and tastes.ā€

The startupā€™s offerings include Barkkey Villas, Barkkey Pods, and pet-friendly furniture, ranging from Rs 15,000 to Rs 5,00,000. Customisations are available to match customersā€™ home aesthetics, with a delivery timeline of 4-7 days. Products can be purchased online via Amazon, the website (www.barkkey.com), or Instagram (@barkkey.india).

'Pet parents spend Rs 7-12 lakhs on their dogs'

The pet care industry in India has seen significant growth in recent years.

Co-founder Sushanth Kanneganti explained, ā€œIndia has two crore domestic dogs. The pet economy, which started post-Covid, was worth Rs 5,000 crore in 2023-2024 and is expected to grow another 20 per cent in the next five years. On average, pet parents spend Rs 7-12 lakhs on their dogs during their lifetime.ā€

Kanneganti, who owns three dogs, added, ā€œAs responsible pet parents, we want our pets to be comfortable. Our products are made with pet-friendly materials, including lead-free paints that are safe even if licked by pets.ā€

Barkkey Bowls across 10 areas in Hyderabad

The Barkkey Foundation is a key component of the startupā€™s vision to promote pet welfare and responsible ownership.

ā€œFor every product sold, we will install Barkkey Bowls across 10 areas in Hyderabad to provide meals for street dogs,ā€ said Bothra. ā€œThe foundation also aims to vaccinate stray dogs and provide healthcare services, including light collars for identification. These dogs will be tagged as ā€˜Barkkey Dogs.ā€™ā€

Co-founders Gopal Varma and Anudeep Y highlighted the adoption aspect, stating, ā€œAdoption rates are around six lakh per annum, with higher numbers in the South compared to the North. People who adopt pets will be eligible for offers on Barkkey products.ā€

Targeting sale of 1 lakh pieces of furniture

The startup has invested Rs 1.8 crore in the project and aims to sell one lakh pieces of furniture in the next year. Currently, 25 designs are available, and the team plans to introduce 50 more in the next 15 days.

Discussing market potential, Bothra said, ā€œThe pet population in India is expected to grow 9 per cent annually between 2022 and 2027. Spending on pet care reached $3.6 billion in 2024, up from $1.6 billion in 2019. This creates a significant opportunity for our products.ā€

Barkitecture: A trend with purpose

The founders emphasised the philosophy behind their venture: respect for pets and their space. ā€œDogs are not just pets; they are family, companions, and lifelong sources of unconditional love,ā€ said Varma. ā€œThrough our efforts, we want to make their lives more comfortable and also support the welfare of stray dogs.ā€

With its dual focus on premium pet products and welfare initiatives, SVAG Pet Homes aims to redefine the way India views and cares for its dogs.
