Hyderabad: Two bike-borne robbers fired at and injured a cloth merchant before decamping with Rs 6 lakh cash near the State Bank of India head office at Koti Bank Street on Saturday.

Victim shot while depositing cash

The incident occurred around 7 a.m. when Rasheed, a cloth trader from Nampally, arrived at an ATM near the SBI main office to deposit cash. The assailants, who were reportedly following him, suddenly attacked and fired at him before snatching the money.

Bullet injury, hospitalised

Rasheed sustained a bullet injury to his leg in the firing. He was immediately shifted to Osmania General Hospital, where doctors said his condition is stable.

Bike-borne assailants escape

Police said the attackers arrived on a motorcycle, carried out the firing in a swift manner, and fled the scene on the bike of the person who got shot within minutes with the cash, triggering panic in the busy Bank Street area.

CCTV footage under scrutiny

Teams from the Sultan Bazaar Police rushed to the spot and secured the area. CCTV footage from nearby establishments and the ATM premises is being examined to identify and trace the suspects.

Probe on, security tightened

A case has been registered, and special teams have been formed to track down the assailants. Police have stepped up patrolling in and around Koti and other commercial areas as part of heightened security measures.
