Hyderabad: India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast fresh rainfall for Hyderabad and adjoining districts.
IMD said there are chances of light to moderate showers with occasional heavy spells through Thursday.
After Kamareddy and Medak, rains are expected to lash Sangareddy, Medchal, and Hyderabad.
Rainfall and Forecast
According to IMD-Hyderabad, the city recorded 26 mm of rain in the last 24 hours, with maximum temperatures dipping to 24°C and minimum temperatures at 21°C. Humidity touched nearly 96%, leaving residents grappling with sticky conditions.
The forecast predicts rain or thundershowers till Friday, followed by lighter spells over the weekend. From Saturday (Aug 30), rainfall is expected to reduce to drizzle or light showers. Early September (Sept 1–2) is likely to bring only scattered rain, offering a temporary pause before the next wet spell.
“Moisture-laden winds from the Bay of Bengal continue to fuel rainfall across Telangana. Hyderabad may experience intermittent downpours today, though widespread flooding is not anticipated,” said meteorologist K. S. Sridhar speaking to Newsmeter.
Possible Disruptions
The IMD has cautioned residents of waterlogging in low-lying areas and traffic congestion during sudden bursts of rain. Power cuts were reported in some pockets on Wednesday, though officials say supply has largely been restored.
Despite disruptions, life in the city continues largely unhindered, with commuters braving waterlogged stretches and turning once again to umbrellas and raincoats.
Telangana Government Health Advisory
In light of the weather, the Telangana Directorate of Public Health and Family Welfare has issued a statewide advisory to prevent seasonal illnesses such as dengue, malaria, gastroenteritis, typhoid, and viral fevers.
Dr. B. Ravinder Nayak, Director of Public Health, said, “Along with heavy rainfall, we expect higher humidity and cooler temperatures, which can lead to an increase in vector, water, and airborne diseases. Citizens must follow basic hygiene and preventive steps to safeguard their health.”
Vector-Borne Diseases
• Secure doors and windows with mosquito screens
• Cover beds and cribs with nets
• Avoid water stagnation in drains and containers
• Observe a weekly “Friday Dry Day” to eliminate mosquito breeding grounds
Water-Borne Infections
• Drink only boiled or filtered water
• Wash hands before meals
• Avoid stale or unhygienic street food
Airborne Illnesses
• Use masks or handkerchiefs when coughing or sneezing
• Sanitize hands frequently
• Avoid contact with sick individuals
• Report flu-like symptoms—cough, fever, sore throat, body pains—at the nearest government facility
The health department has set up special beds, I.V. fluids, and medicines at public hospitals. ORS sachets and medicines are being distributed through ANMs, ASHAs, and Anganwadi workers.
For emergencies, citizens have been urged to call the 108 ambulance services.
Looking Ahead
Meteorologists suggest that rainfall will remain uneven across Telangana through the weekend. “By early September, rainfall will ease before another wet spell is expected in the second week,” noted K. S. Sridhar.
For Hyderabadis, the next few days mean balancing rain-soaked commutes with cautionary health practices as the monsoon continues its course.
