Vijayawada: The officials of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested two persons, including scientist-D/joint director of the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) Vijayawada, Krishna District, Andhra Pradesh, and a representative of a private company registered at Bengaluru for exchanging a bribe of Rs 70,000 in Hyderabad.

The CBI registered a case on March 30 against three persons in the case. Apart from the two who were arrested immediately after taking the bribe, a quality in-charge of the same private company was booked. Other yet-to-be-identified public and private persons have also been mentioned in the case.

The bribe was given and taken for obtaining undue favours to the company and other parties, i.e. for giving approval of BIS for the quantity of 12,500 cylinders to be manufactured by the said private company.

The CBI laid a trap and caught the two accused immediately after the bribe amount of Rs 70,000 was exchanged hands in Hyderabad. The bribe was recovered from the joint director. Further, the accused would be produced before the special judge court for CBI Cases, Vijayawada.

Searches were conducted by CBI at the residential and official premises of accused public servants in Hyderabad and Vijayawada, which led to the recovery of incriminating documents.
