Hyderabad: Karkhana Police have registered a case against Grill 9 Hotel after an Inspector from the Central Crime Station (CCS) and his driver fell ill following the consumption of shawarma.

According to the police, on the night of September 24, Inspector T. Vamshi Krishna Rao, along with his driver, SPO Kiran Kumar Reddy, were returning from Secunderabad. Reddy felt hungry, and Inspector Rao instructed him to buy food. The driver parked their vehicle outside Karkhana Police Station and went to Grill 9 Hotel, located nearby, where he bought two shawarmas for Rs 290.

Both the inspector and his driver ate the shawarmas. However, the next morning, they began experiencing health issues. Inspector Rao reported stomach discomfort, headache, diarrhea, and chills, while his driver suffered from a fever. Despite the symptoms, Inspector Rao went to the CCS office in Basheerbagh for work, but his condition worsened. He took medication as advised by his doctor, but his symptoms persisted.

Inspector Rao filed a complaint on Thursday, accusing the restaurant of serving adulterated food. Karkhana Police have registered a case against Grill 9 Hotel under Section 274 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for providing adulterated food.
