Hyderabad: In view of the rising number of COVID-19 cases and in tune with the government guidelines, this Easter the churches in Hyderabad have set strict rules for the faithful to follow.

In a letter addressed to all the clergy and the faithful in the archdiocese of Hyderabad Rev. Dr. Poola Anthony, the archbishop of Hyderabad, has asked those with comorbidities to avoid Easter mass.

Based on the state's guidelines, the church has decided to conduct liturgical services and prayers inside the church and restrict the number of people. People who attend the services will have to adhere to the government's COVID-19 norms and follow safety measures like wearing a mask, maintaining social distance, and sanitizing. Passion play and processions will be avoided this year.

The archbishop also requested the devotees to remain in their homes and participate devoutly in the liturgical services and prayers on Divyavani or YouTube channel (youtube/Divyavani TV and Divyavani app).

Confirming the same to NewsMeter, the vice-general of Hyderabad archdiocese, Father Swarna Bernard, said, "All churches falling under the Hyderabad archdiocese have been directed to follow the 'no mask, no entry' rule. Multi-Easter mass will be held in the morning and evening in order to divide the crowd. We appeal to the faithful to follow the guidelines."
