Revanth Reddy on Wednesday conducted a review meeting with Telangana Director-General of Police (DGP) Ravi Gupta, Chief Secretary A Santhi Kumari, Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) commissioner Ronald Rose and other senior officials at Dr BR Ambedkar Telangana Secretariat here.
Recruit homeguards to overcome shortage of traffic police personnel
The chief minister asked the officials to overcome shortage of traffic police personnel by recruiting an adequate number of home guards within three months. He suggested the police take the assistance of home guards working in different departments to streamline the traffic in Hyderabad. Measures should be taken by the traffic department to make use of the law and order police personnel services in the city during the peak hours of the day, he said, and added that the existing traffic police stations should be upgraded with an adequate number of staff.
Focus on widening roads and junctions in Hyderabad
Taking stock of the existing road infrastructure in Hyderabad, Revanth Reddy said that focus should be laid by the MA&UD department to widen the roads and junctions. Possibilities should also be explored by officials to construct subways, underpasses and surface ways to handle the traffic in overcrowded junctions like LB Nagar, he said. Arrangements should be made for traffic personnel to be present at all junctions and high traffic areas within the city limits instead of relying on automatic signal systems, he added.
Encourage multilevel car parking
The chief minister said that police officers of Hyderabad, Cyberabad and Rachakonda Commissionerates and municipal zonal commissioners should focus on traffic control in coordination. A meeting should be held once a month to review the traffic problems and measures to be taken to overcome them, he said. Referring to the parking problem in the city, Revanth Reddy said that construction of multi-level car parking centres should be encouraged to overcome the problem. A special parking policy should be formulated by the officials at the earliest, he added.
Comprehensive plan mooted for traffic control
Revanth Reddy also advised the officials to prepare a comprehensive plan for traffic control and management in Greater Hyderabad, keeping in view the development of the city and to accommodate future needs. Consultancies should be given responsibility and a special study should be done in this regard, he added.
