Hyderabad: Decks have been cleared for the construction of Skywalk at Mehdipatnam in Hyderabad City.

HMDA has announced the construction of Skyway soon. The proposal to build a Skywalk for the safety of pedestrians has been pending for years as defence department had not agreed to give their land in the Rythu Bazar area.

Efforts made by the previous government to transfer 0.51 acres of defence land did not yield results. As a result, the work could not be started and the traffic problem in the busy Mehdipatnam Rythu Bazar area increased.

Soon after assuming charge, Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy focused on the measures to overcome traffic congestion in the city. During his Delhi visit on January 5, the Chief Minister met Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and brought to the notice of the pending transfer of defense land. The defence minister responded positively.

The CM made many changes in the Skywalk design on the suggestions of the union government without disturbing the defence zone. The revised proposal was sent to the Center.

Centre approved the allotment of land required for the construction of the Skywalk on Wednesday. 3380 square yards of land will be handed over to the Telangana government. Center will provide infrastructure worth Rs.15.15 crore to the Defence wing. Ministry of Defence agreed to hand over the land within four weeks.

With the approval from the Centre, the major obstacle to the Mehdipatnam SkyWalk work has been removed. The traffic problem will soon be solved at Rythu Bazar Junction, the most important part of the Mumbai highway. The Chief Minister directed the officials concerned to take up the construction of this skyway at the earliest.
