Hyderabad: Congress Corporator Vijaya Reddy booked for assault, passing casteist slur against GHMC worker

Hyderabad: Police have registered a case after a 21-year-old GHMC worker filed a complaint against Khairatabad Congress Corporator Vijaya Reddy and other leaders for allegedly assaulting and harassing him over his caste.

Gugunur Sai Kumar has filed a complaint with Banjara Hills police against Vijaya Reddy, Congress leaders Anil Kumar Yadav, Rohini Reddy, and their followers

The incident occurred last Friday when Sai Kumar, accompanied by his colleagues N. Ramreddy and driver Shivakumar Vijaykumar, was assigned the task of removing flexes, banners, and hoardings belonging to various political parties in the vicinity of the Taj Krishna hotel.

This task was part of their routine duties as instructed by a superior officer at GHMC.

However, what should have been a routine job took a distressing turn when they were confronted by a group of Congress party members, which included Corporator Vijaya Reddy, Congress leaders Ani Kumar Yadav, Rohini Reddy, and 20 of their supporters. Congress members questioned the GHMC workers' authority to remove the political banners and used offensive language during the confrontation.

In an attempt to defuse the situation, Sai Kumar explained that he belonged to the SC (Madiga) caste and that he was merely trying to earn a livelihood for his family. Despite his pleas for understanding, the Congress members continued to berate and intimidate the GHMC workers. Sai Kumar pleaded before Corporator Vijayareddy and Anil Kumar Yadav for compassion, but his pleas went unanswered.

The situation escalated as the Congress members resorted to physical aggression. Sai Kumar's driver, Shiva Kumar was so frightened that he fled the scene. Congress members then threatened Sai Kumar and assaulted his colleagues, Vijaykumar and Ramreddy.

Later they coerced Sai Kumar to accompany them back to the Taj Krishna hotel in Banjara Hills. In a daring move, Sai Kumar managed to break free and escape into a nearby alley.

This incident not only disrupted the GHMC workers' duties but also involved physical assault, derogatory language, and coercion based on caste.

Sai Kumar has filed a complaint with the Banjara Hills police, urging authorities to take the necessary legal actions against Corporator Vijaya Reddy, Anil Kumar Yadav, Rohini Reddy, and their associates by the law.

Banjara Hills police have registered a case under sections 353, 332, 504, 506 r/w 34 IPC, and sec 3(1) of the SC ST Act against the accused, and the investigation is currently underway.
