Hyderabad consumed 4,053 MW in single day; power usage up by 20%

Hyderabad: As summer reaches its peak, the demand for electricity in Hyderabad is at its highest with the indiscriminate usage of air-conditioners. On Thursday, the daily energy consumption in Greater Hyderabad was recorded at 4,053 MW. The spike in power usage this year has increased by 16-20 per cent.

Last year, the highest demand of 3,756 MW was recorded on May 19 and on April 1 this year, 3,832 MW was recorded as consumed surpassing the record of May last year.

According to the data by the officials from Southern Discom – TSSPDCL, there is a 2.5 per cent increase in peak demand in 2023 compared to 2022. Meanwhile, in 2024, an increase of 20.04 per cent was recorded. Whereas, in 2024, 24.52 per cent was recorded.

There is 16.11 per cent growth as recorded on April 17 while the demand growth was only 1.81 per cent in 2023.




‘Ready to meet any demand’

According to the officials, the state power distribution companies are ready to meet any demand and required additional distribution lines and transformers have been arranged.

“Despite the challenges posed and the subsequent surge in power consumption, officials are working diligently to ensure uninterrupted power supply to all sectors,” the TSSPDCL said in a statement.

A week before, chief minister Revanth Reddy issued orders to the officials to prepare village-wise action plans for uninterrupted power supply and ensure no power outages in the state.
