Hyderabad: The Cyberabad Police on 25 December issued an order stating that no permission will be given to pubs, restaurants, or even gated communities for new year celebrations.
"No permission is given for new year events at resorts, pubs, clubs and bars on 31 December night. The ban is also imposed on gated communities against gathering for celebrations," said V.S. Sajjanar, Commissioner of Police, Cyberabad.
The ban was imposed as a precautionary measure to contain the COVID-19 virus in the city.
The commissioner also said that public entertainment programmes are cancelled this year. Resorts and pubs will be under surveillance and strict action will be taken against drunk drivers.
Earlier, the health department had asked the police and the GHMC to impose a ban on new year celebrations in fear of a second COVID-19 wave.
