Hyderabad: Hyderabad Commissioner of Police CV Anand has issued an order banning rallies, dharnas, and public meetings in the city to maintain public order, peace, and tranquillity.

The order issued under section 163 of Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita 2023 ( earlier known as Section 144) prohibits the gathering of five or more persons, processions, dharnas, rallies, public meetings, and display of symbols or messages that could incite public disturbance in the limits of Hyderabad and Secunderabad.

From 6 pm on October 27, this prohibition will remain in force till November 28. According to the order, the ban was issued in response to intelligence information that indicated several political groups and organizations were preparing to stage protests that would disturb the calm. Only Indira Park Dharna Chowk is allowed to host nonviolent dharnas and protests.

However, there have been exceptions made for military personnel, police officers on duty, funeral processions, and anyone who receives special permissions from the appropriate authorities. Any individual violating the orders above, especially near Dr BR Ambedkar Telangana State Secretariat and other sensitive places would face prosecution under relevant penal provisions, the Commissioner said.

Hyderabad City Police have made a plea to the populace to comply with these limitations and help keep the city peaceful and orderly.

39 Telangana Special Police personnel suspended for 'misconduct, incitement' of agitation

As many as 39 personnel of the Telangana Special Police (TGSP) have been suspended for alleged misconduct and incitement of agitation.

Some TGSP personnel (constables) held agitations inside the Battalion campus in Telangana as well as on the streets of several places, including Hyderabad, and the families of the constables held sporadic protests in the state, demanding uniform policies for all police personnel and better working conditions.

"With a view to upholding discipline and integrity within the Telangana Special Police, the 39 personnel involved in misconduct are placed under suspension for unbecoming of government servants, including incitement of others for agitation among Battalion personnel," the Telangana Police said.

The suspended personnel were found to have acted in violation of conduct rules and have engaged in behavior contrary to the one expected from government servants and they allegedly instigated unrest within the Battalion, adversely affecting morale and operational efficiency, it said.

Such actions not only undermine the disciplinary framework but also tarnish the image of the uniformed force dedicated to maintain peace and security in Telangana, the release said.

The Telangana Police remains committed to maintaining strict discipline within its ranks and taking corrective measures against any misconduct, it said. adding a thorough investigation is underway.

Senior officials were directed to closely monitor Battalion activities and ensure a positive working environment, the police said.
