Hyderabad: The Hyderabad City Cyber Crime Police gave back Rs 1.09 crores lost by victims in two cybercrimes. The victims were cheated by the cyber fraudsters on the pretext of investment in trading and promising substantial profits.

Case details

In the first complaint, a 52-year-old person, a private employee and resident of Begumpet in Hyderabad stated that the cyber fraudsters cheated him on the pretext of trading in institutional accounts in Lazardoosvip.top.

The cyber fraudsters promised substantial profits and made him transfer an amount of Rs 1,22,26,205 to the bank accounts provided by the accused. In this regard the Cyber Crime Police here registered a case u/s 66(C), 66(D) IT Act & Sec 319(2),318(4),338,336(3),340(2) BNS and investigated into.

In another complaint received from a 62-year-old Hyderabad resident stated that the cyber fraudsters cheated him on the pretext of investment in Goldman Sachs Securities. They promised substantial profits and made him transfer an amount of Rs 32,10,000 to the bank accounts provided by the accused.

In this regard the Cyber Crime Police registered a case u/s 66(C), 66(D) ITA Act & Sec 319(2),318(4),338,336(3),340(2) BNS and investigated into.

In a statement, DCP Cyber Crimes D Kavitha said that notices were sent to the bank officials and followed up with them to freeze the amount. ā€œWe have guided the complainant to file a petition in the court for the refund of the put-on-hold amount in the fraudulent accounts,ā€ she said.

ā€œWithin a few days, we received court orders from the additional chief metropolitan magistrate, Eswaraiah of XII ACMM Court, Nampally, regarding reverting the amount of Rs Rs 1.09 crores to the complainantā€™s bank account,ā€ the DCP said.

ā€œDonā€™t invest in such platforms and fall prey to cyber fraudsters. There is a possibility to get a refund of at least part of the loss and put on hold amount, if it is reported immediately. Victims of cyber frauds can report immediately on the helpline number 1930 or through the national Cyber Crime reporting portal,ā€ Anand said.
