Warangal/Kaghaznagar: Telangana Drugs Control Administration (DCA) has intensified its crackdown on drug law violations, seizing veterinary medicines worth Rs 2.5 lakh in Warangal and confiscating a misleading Ayurvedic product in Komaram Bheem Asifabad district.
In the first incident, DCA officials raided Saikiran Poultry and Vet Medicals in the Girmajipet area of Warangal, acting on credible intelligence. The shop was found to be illegally operating without a valid drug license, in violation of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act.
Officials discovered 26 different varieties of veterinary medicines stocked for sale. The total value of the seized stock was estimated at Rs 2.5 lakh. Samples were collected for analysis, and a thorough investigation is underway.
DCA has warned wholesalers and dealers against supplying medicines to unlicensed outlets, cautioning that they too will face legal action under the Act, which permits imprisonment of up to five years for such offenses.
In a separate operation on the same day, DCA officials seized stocks of PLATOCORE-TOTAL Syrup, an Ayurvedic medicine, from a medical store in Kaghaznagar, Komaram Bheem Asifabad district. The syrup was found to carry misleading claims on its label, advertising that it was āhelpful in all kinds of Flu and Fever.ā
Such claims violate the Drugs and Magic Remedies (Objectionable Advertisements) Act, 1954, which prohibits the advertisement of drugs for the treatment of certain diseases and disorders. As fever is a symptom rather than a disease, and medicines cannot claim to cure it generally, the claim was deemed misleading.
The product is manufactured by Ultra Green (UNIT-I) in Haryana and marketed by Biocore Pharmaceuticals in Himachal Pradesh. Legal action will be initiated against all parties involved, the DCA officials said.
The DCA has urged the public to report any suspicious activities related to drug manufacturing or sales, including those involving narcotic and psychotropic substances, through its toll-free number 1800-599-6969, available from 10:30 AM to 5:00 PM on all working days.
