Hyderabad: DCA raids corporate hospitals’ pharmacies; detects violations at 66 facilities

Hyderabad: Telangana Drugs Control Administration (DCA) launched a massive crackdown on pharmacies attached to corporate hospitals nationwide.
During the raids, DCA uncovered violations at 66 facilities on May 5.
Irregularities Found in Hospital Pharmacies
According to an official press release, the special inspection revealed widespread non-compliance with drug regulation norms. Among the irregularities detected were:
Dispensing of prescription medicines without a Registered Pharmacist
Non-maintenance of mandatory sales and prescription drug registers
Absence of purchase and sales bills
Sale of prescription drugs without a proper prescription
Improper storage of thermolabile drugs
Stocking of expired drugs with saleable items
DCA officials confirmed that show-cause notices will be issued to all 66 pharmacies for violating provisions of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940.
Major Seizure in Kukatpally
A key finding during the inspections was at Remedy Hospital, Kukatpally, where officials detected Biopro PRP medical kits worth ₹70,000. These kits were manufactured by Alchem Diagnostics, Coimbatore, and found to have serious labelling discrepancies, including:
Absence of manufacturing licence number
Dual manufacturing dates on the same batch number
Conflicting sterilization processes are labeled on the outer carton.
The hospital pharmacy also failed to produce purchase and sale bills for the kits. DCA officials ordered that the products not be disposed of until further investigation.
Additional Offenses Reported
Other violations include the discovery of physicians’ samples mixed with commercial stock at Life Care Pharmacy in Medak, and the stocking of a banned medicine, SUGATAB MV2 FORTE, at a pharmacy attached to Gemcare Poulomi Hospitals, Dr. A.S. Rao Nagar.
