Hyderabad: An electricity employee was injured after he was assaulted by a consumer in Sanathnagar.
According to Sanatnagar police, H. Srikanth, a line inspector in the ErraGadda area, and meter reader, P. Sai Ganesh went to the Kabeernagar area of Motinagar on Thursday for a meter reading.
The incident occurred when Sai Ganesh visited the residence of T. Ramulu and asked him to pay a pending bill of Rs. 6,858. Venkataswamy's son, Muralidhar Rao (19), however, refused to pay. Consequently, the electricity supply was cut off.
Enraged, Muralidhar Rao, who is a kickboxer, attacked Sai Ganesh. When Srikanth intervened, he too was assaulted.
Sai Ganesh sustained serious injuries and has been admitted to the hospital. Sanatnagar police have registered a case and are conducting an investigation.
Leaders of the 1535 Electricity Employees Union came to the police station to condemn the attack. Union's general secretary Srinivas demanded stringent action against the accused.
He said that as part of their duty, they went to ask for the payment of electricity bills. However, they were beaten very badly. The meter reader was seriously injured and is currently undergoing treatment, he added.
