Hyderabad: Engineer set for job interview electrocuted due to GHMC negligence; case registered

Hyderabad: A 35-year-old hardware engineer was electrocuted due to the alleged negligence of the GHMC authorities in Srikrishnanagar.

Identified as Tumma Bhavana Rushi of Kummarigutta in Peddapalli district, his hand came into contact with a streetlight pole when he was walking on the footpath in Srikrishnanagar.

According to the Jubilee Hills police, Rushi had set out to fetch photocopies on Thursday evening. He was scheduled for a job interview the following day. As he traversed the footpath near Metro Pillar No. 1546 in Srikrishnanagar, tragedy struck when his left hand accidentally came into contact with a street light pole. Rushi collapsed immediately due to the electric shock and, despite attempts to rise, succumbed to his injuries on the spot.

Residents discovered Rushi's lifeless body around 10:30 pm and alerted authorities. An investigation revealed exposed electric wires on the pole, indicating a potential hazard up to 10 meters distance that contributed to the fatal accident. CCTV footage corroborated the sequence of events leading to Rushi's electrocution.

In response to a complaint filed by the deceased's family, police have registered a case under section 304A of the Indian Penal Code against the GHMC street light department and the contractor responsible for the electric poles.

The victim's brother demanded action to prevent similar tragedies in the future.

The incident has reignited concerns about pedestrian safety in the city. Rushi's grieving widow expressed shock and sorrow over the untimely loss of her husband.
