Hyderabad: Cyberabad police arrested a 20-year-old engineering student for allegedly selling ganja to fellow students and others in Mokila.

More than 300 grams of the drug were recovered from his possession.

Tip-Off leads to arrest

Acting on specific intelligence, the Cyberabad Special Operations Team, in coordination with Mokila police, intercepted the student near the Donthapally gram panchayat office around 1.45 p.m. He was residing in a private hostel close to his university campus and hails from Uttar Pradesh.

Modus Operandi

Investigators recovered a mobile phone and a pocket-sized weighing scale reportedly used to divide the contraband into 10-gram packets, each sold for Rs 1,000.

According to the FIR, the student admitted to becoming addicted to ganja six months ago and began reselling it to meet his expenses.

Source and Customers

The accused disclosed that he purchased the seized stock for Rs 7,000 from a batchmate, who was identified as the supplier and is currently absconding. He further admitted supplying ganja to nine consumers: seven students from the same campus, a bike-taxi driver, and a private employee.

Drug tests and legal action

“All nine consumers and the accused tested positive for ganja. Given the small quantity, notices were issued under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, and the consumers will undergo rehabilitation,” said Mokila Inspector B. Veerababu.

Case registered

A case has been filed under Sections 20(b)(ii)(A) and 27 of the NDPS Act. Police are continuing efforts to trace and apprehend the absconding supplier.
